Websters dictionary defines skepticism: “an attitude of doubt or a disposition to incredulity either in general or toward a particular object.” Disbelief, doubt, and uncertainty are all rooted from sin. Since all sin stems from pride(i.e. Garden of Eden: “I know God said to not eat the fruit, but I know better so I am going to go my own way and eat the fruit because I know best.”) we know that skepticism and doubt are stemmed from pride. Pride in our smarts, and our wisdom; thinking that some things are just to hard to believe, and since that doesn’t make sense I’m just gonna be a skeptic. This blog post is for all of you skeptics out there, and how you can combat your doubt and pride.
Jesus says in Revelation 21:8- “”But cowards, *unbelievers, the corrupt, murderers, the immoral, those who practice witchcraft, idol worshipers, and all liars–their fate is in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.” That is gnarly. i added a star by unbelievers so you could see that not trusting in Jesus/ not believing in Him(skepticism) is as damnable as witchcraft, sexual immorality, lying, and murdering. How crazy is that? Like God really really cares about you, but if you don’t believe in who He is or the work that He has done for you on the cross, your are justly as doomed for hell. But why? Why is disbelief so radically offensive to God? Because you aren’t trusting Him.
In any relationship without trust, there is no relationship. God desires you to have intimacy with Him, but like any relationship without trust, can there be intimacy? Certainly not. Another reason is that it shows God Himself of as He should be seen: Trustworthy. He is so worthy of my trust that i can give all i am to be devoted to Him, loving Him, living for Him, and worshipping Him. and i can’t even see Him. Living faith shows off the Lord is such a beautiful way to this sinful humanity that says seeing is believing.
Those are just a few reasons why trusting in Jesus is so important. Don’t be a skeptic. Give that up. It will not do you any good. Jesus says this today to you skeptic: “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying. Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die. Do you believe this?”
Trust in Jesus today. He loves you so, and longs to give you joy and hope in Him.
