It’s funny. In your walk with God, you can go so long being lukewarm, and not really realize you are. The past couple months i have been in a particular season of dryness. i had doubts, fears, worries, you name it. it was no fun. and when God puts you through trials such as those, there is only a few things you can do.
1. Pray without ceasing. Prayer is talking. and not just talking with some person, but the Living God. When we pray, we build relationship. Even in doubts. you must pray. Take this situation for example: your married. your spend time talking with your spouse at most 5 minutes a day. rarely you spend time with her, and when you do you have to leave in 5 minutes. That’s ridiculous right? Absolutely. That’s no way to have a good relationship with someone. You have to spend time with them, talk to them, etc. Or else, you are not gonna have a good relationship. which brings me to to the second thing you must do.
2. Cling to the Bible. Since the Bible is the Word of God, it is infallible and inerrant. Also it’s God’s direct revelation to man. So this is how you get to know God. God is always talking, but we are never listening. God talks through His Word, people, situations, or even dreams or visions.
3. Spend time in Godly community. If you are disconnected from Christian community, it’s going to be much tougher. Though community is not Savior, it is a necessity. God said in Genesis 2:18 it is not good for man to be alone. Proverbs 27:17 says as iron sharpens iron, say one person sharpens another. Not only is community a necessity, but it is helpful. They will help fix your eyes back on Jesus, where they always should be and need to be. Lastly and most importantly:
4. Trust. you have to trust God and know that He will bring you through what your going through. God will not just take you out of the fire, but He will bring you through it and refine you. Trust in Him. Put all your hope in Jesus, as hard as it may be.
What i have said isn’t the recipe to get out of a dry season, but what helps to get you through it. feel free to comment or respond. Here is a great song by the Sing Team.
